La Guardia is probably a slightly more comfortable arrival than JFK, but they ar eboth an hour or so from Manhattan where you are going. Ask around for ground transport to Manhattan. You may be able to get a bus to the Port Authority terminal, or even a cab right to your stopover ont he West side.
