Barbara, you may have noticed that there are two competing shape-note systems, the four-shape and the seven-shape systems. Which of these was most appropriate was the subject-matter of heated controversy at the end of the 19th century. There are also at least two philosophies of melody-placement: the air-in-the-tenor school and the air-in-the-treble school.I have never heard of the "Amidons". Can you tell me a little about them ?
