What Kerry said was that he participated (with hundreds of others) in such things as free-fire zones, harrassment fire, and burning empty houses, which he later found out were technically war crimes under the Geneva conventions. He did not, I think, know whether he himself had killed anyone by doing these things.

He DID, on at least one occasion that I know of, kill a Viet Cong soldier. I assume you of all people won't start wagging your finger disapprovingly at THAT.
