I have a boyfriend from Cameroon, he brought me best of Angelique Kidjo - and suddenly this song from my childhood filled the room, I have not heard it since me and my friend learned it orally from her uncle who had worked in Africa. We didn't know what the words ment, how to write it or what language it was. We were eight and playing we were africans... It was the first foreign song I learned, before I was able to speak english. And there it is, and I burst into tears, thinking of that particular friend, who is now dying of cancer, 35 years old, and I am desperate to sing it to her again, maybe for the last time... I was then so grateful when I quickly found this website.
