I think the Irish Rovers must have made this one up themselves ... I never heard it here in Sydney - although there are a few good songs about the local ferries.

I thought there was a request for a song of similar description - if a different set of quoted lyrics a year or two back ... but a 3-year search on "Sydney Harbour Ferry Song" ... ditto on "Ferry" and "Sydney", uncovered nothing that vaguely related.
