I just got back from one of those experiences that are one of life's defining moments. Mudcat member KT is in town and this evening she sang at an outdoor salmon bake. KT has a lovely voice, a wide repertoire of songs and a remarkable ability to gather large groups of hungry travelers comfortably into her gentle hand.

At the very end someone someone asked for 'Annie's Song'. With the first notes I saw people reach out to each other and stand in tight embrace while they softly sang along. Down the long table from me were 4 or 5 young people (30ish) who found lovely harmonies in the song as they sang along. It was soft, it was loving, it was overwhelming.

Then the song ended and there was silence for a moment then quiet handclapping. And then someone said, Do you know Amazing Grace? Well, I tell you. I was glad it was dim light under the visqueen tent because tears spilled and flowed down my face. Beauty in song is almost more than I can bear.

I hope to be at Getaway 2004- if there are a lot of dense harmonies I'll need to bring a fresh box of kleenex.
