well...... one could theorize about the significance of the caduceus with the practice of medicine and the similarity of the symbol of the rod and two intertwined snakes to the double helix of DNA too. Then again Hermes the Messenger was also the god of thieves. BG..... Hmmm....and then there's that double helix of the barley twist associated with the Celts.......come to think of it, knitting and crochetting can get the one's mind making more connections than one sometimes does with the stitches in one's hand.
