Steve Goodman always credited Hildebrand with the writing of it. Hildebrand doesn't recall meeting Steve but they were both in the Chicago area at around the same time. Hildebrand went off rambling around the world and Steve tried, for many years, to find him to ask about recording the song and to send him royalties. Hildebrand found out after Steve's death that this song had taken on a life of its own. I'll paste the details of the song from one of my other postings. Joy
