For one thing he's not objecting to showing ID; he's objecting to the "authorities" not recognizing a driver's license (plus a slip which can only be obtained from a student's mailbox) as valid ID.

And he's objecting to using the need for showingID to further egotistical power trips. Bullying.

Of course you need to show ID in your everyday working life, but you don't need to be jerked around by people who take advantage of that need. Or do you think that's one of the privileges of rank?
