Sonnet 04/06/02                              DCXCIX

I reach out with my words, and try to hold
To feelings far away. I seek the fire
I see in eyes, to shield me from the cold,
And light my way to hope, to verse inspire.
In dreams I trace a touch along smile's curve,
To know if you are real. How can I keep
From fears? I've only images to serve
As sight, just words from which to passions reap.
Yet, you have sent a part of soul, in lines
With soft whisper of friendship, and desires.
How can I not respond: Does heart see signs
Of all I seek, or are my dreams all liars?
I offer aged, weary heart to one
Too far to kiss, yet far too dear to shun.
