OK, here's a summary. I built 2 new servers over the last couple of weeks. One for databases and one for web serving. These new ones were to replace 2 very old machines doing the job now. So I've been transferring web sites and databases to the new machines. One of the new machines has Windows 2003 Advanced Server which I have never worked with before so it has been challenging to learn the ins and outs of it. Without going too much into it, the 2 new machines changed just about everything I have always been very used to.

In the process of transferring things little by little, Bertha died suddenly yesterday with high pitched cry that you only hear with a hard drive physically goes bad. Also, one of the new servers had a bad Ethernet card. That made what I hoped to be a weeks worth of work happen last night. Bertha was also a DNS server that I needed, so I had to transfer that over. I still need to figure out how to get one more computer to be a backup DNS server.

The good news is that once the bugs are worked out, we're much, much faster and more reliable. We're now, at least, dealing with 21st century technology. I just need to learn how it all works and get the kinks out.

So in short, growing pains.
