Thread Name: BS: Tough on Crime?
Subject: BS: Tough on Crime?
I remember Tony Blur saying he would be "Tough on Crime, and Tough on the causes of crime". A few days ago it was announced that shoplifers will not be prosecuted [as long as they only steal up to £200 worth of stuff at a time] if they admit the offence, and pay a small fine, they will not have to bother going to court, and they will not get a criminal record. I don't really understand this! Surely stealing from shops is a crime, and should be treated as such?
Maybe I'm been cynical, but perhaps it's so they can say that Crime Figures have gone right down under Labour?
Also announced =Life now means 7 years ie Convicted Murderers will only need to serve 7 years in jail [as long as they say sorry, and promise not to do it again], note , this 7 years tarrif is before remission, so if they behave whilst in jail, ie don't kill anyone else whilst inside, they could be out in 3 and half years.
Anyone defaulting on there council tax, or not having a telly licence will now get 100 years in jail [without parole].
