Thread Name: BS: Tough on Crime?
Subject: RE: BS: Tough on Crime?
The Uk is also trying to bring in 'part time' and ' weekend only' prison sentences. The premise being the prisoners will be removed from society at the times that they usually commit their crimes, and still able to hold down a job and maintain a family life. I would have thought that commiting a crime punishable by imprisonment forfeits their rights to a job and family?
I know that some say we don't have the room to keep building prisons and the costs to maintain them are eating up budgets that could be used elsewhere....but, and I know there will be an obvious answer why this won't work maybe, but I can't think of it right now....why aren't they just put on an uninhabited island somewhere in the middle of nowhere, too far to escape from on a bag of coconut husks? It could be staffed by those seeking that sort of location and helicopters could drop in supplies. It would be cheap.
