Excellent piece. Thanks for the link. Made me wish for the people who spoke in full paragraphs and had substantial things to say---Stevenson, JFK, and also some Republicans of times gone by.

Unfortunately our TV oriented society lives on sound bytes. Right up Geo. Bush's alley.   

I must agree with the point about being respected rather than feared (you don't have to be loved) and we should have found out from Viet Nam that we had best think of the dead on all sides---and stop trying to create other cultures in our image. They just try to do the same then---in reverse.
