Back about 150 years ago there were an estimated 60,000,000 American bison, ruminants running amok across the plains of the US. Obviously, they produced a prodigious amount of methane and therewith contributed mightily to the greenhouse effect.

Buffalo hunters and brucellosis killed most of them off. Why do we now deride and denigrate these early environmentalists, instead of honoring them as they deserve?

More importantly, they reduced the number of buffalo (I'll use the old American term) to managible proportions. Just imagine trying to vaccinate 60,000,000 wild animals, each weighing around 900 kilograms!
