Thread Name: Origins: 'You black pickaninny from old Virginny'
Subject: Origins: Black Pickaninny all the way from Old V
My grandmother sang me this song. I do not know the title of the song or time period. My granmother was born in 1890. Does anyone know the name of this song and where I could locate the sheet music. I know the lyrics... Early in the morning Er the sun do rise.
Laying on a corncob bed.
Baby rolling over hazel colored eyes,
little wee kinky wooly head.
Mammy is a dozin dreamin of the bliss.
Thinkin of the days gone by.
Hush my little cherub give your pap a kiss.
God bless the day that he was born.
REFRAIN: Hello baby, here's your daddy.
Up and down the baby goes.
He's a black pickaninny all the way from old Virginny.
Goodness how that baby grows.
Then it continues with the next verse. Was this a popular song? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!! Lynne
