Wkailey, You got it in ahead of me.. I was going to do the Juice of the Barley next! I grew up listening to the Clancy bros. records, too. You left out the Gaelic in the chorus: "Singing banya na mo if an ganna, and the Juice of the Barley for me." That is the way the Clancys wrote it in their songbook from 1964. It is dog-eared from all my years of using it, and there are a few words here and there in songs that they sang differently on recordings. It makes sense to take turf to school if you want a fire in the stove to keep you warm. Possibly a typo on your part, but for accuracy's sake the priests are in the "vestry". Last verse:

Well from that day to this I have wandered alone,
I'm a jack of all trades and a master of none.
With the sky for my roof and the earth for my floor
And I'll dance out me days drinkin' whiskey galore.
