Thread Name: Folklore: music sessions in Dublin
Subject: RE: Folklore: music sessions in Dublin
Greetings Helge. Hope you enjoy the trip.

For tunes as opposed to singing, Hughes' Bar behind the Four Courts (Chancery Street) is overwhelmingly the best bet. Every night of the week, but some days are better than others, so it might be worth phoning them. O'Donoghue's of course is well known, and still has some good sessions. There are so-called sessions in some of the Temple Bar pubs, but they tend to be organised affairs led by hired musicians who don't encourage wider participation. There is also much traditional music (but not open sesions) laid on at Johnny Fox's, a huge and lively hostelry up in the hills beyond Dun Leoghaire.

For singing, I dunno. Hope that Martin Ryan looks into this thread...

You might get more opinions by putting "Dublin" in the filter box above the threads, and setting "age" to (say) one year. This should bring up a number of other threads in which Dublin sessions have been discussed.

For future reference, by the way, threads like this one that are concerned in a general way with Mudcat's "core business" don't really need any prefix like "folklore" etc.
