You are yet a young gal, and when I did that stuff as a kid--which was fifty years ago--we may have used normal straight-edged pinking shears (I am calling them that because I never could spell sissers, scisors, scissers, scissores, scsissors, siscissers, scissoers). We had crayons when I was a kid, but markers didn't then exist (to my knowledge).
