Sonnet 07/12/02                               DCCLXIX

Had I fair words to fairer feelings show
I might let these few lines be all I send,
These cold and lonely evenings. Yet, you know
My hopes: For true friend, love, and muse to lend
Words to desire. I seek your smile, to light
My dreams, that I could give heart rest. I ask
For chance to think I might spend future night
Looking in eyes, and in affection bask.
Had I a chance to hold you, I would seize
To vision with my soul: You offer all
That heart desires, yet would my passions please?
Can I ask for my dreams, to let lines call
For what words cannot hold? Could winter ease
Heat of desire, or will I to hope fall?
