Reeve wasn't vastly wealthy, despite all of the films he had made. I remember reading after the horse-riding accident that they had to work hard to align the family finances to adjust their home so he could live in that house, and to make arrangements for the intense physical therapy and to set up the foundation. The fact that he was able to do so much, not just get his business in order, but to go beyond that and raise money for research, that's one hard working individual.
