Hiya !

What we use for a hot Irish whiskey - the same I believe as the 'hot toddy' you ask about is quite simple ;

Warm a glass (so as not to break it later)
Into it put :

A tea-spoonful of sugar
A slice of lemon - studded with 3 or 4 cloves
A shot of whiskey (we use 1/4 gill measures in our pubs - but a generous hand is not bad...)
Pour on boiling water

Drink slowly - sleep well !
