Sonnet 21/02/03                        DCCLXXXIX

Are dreams of you enough to give me cause
To offer heart? What would you have me send,
And to what goal? I cannot passions pause,
But seek your smile: I would not friendship end.
Are words of my desire more than you need,
Or do you think that I now offer less
Than reason for my dreams? Do my hopes lead
To vision you might let my heart confess?
Dear rose, you remain in my thoughts, though cold
And ice bury my hopes. I dream your eyes
Might heal heart, and thought of your soft smile hold
Back tears: Yet, are even dreams of love wise?
I ask, but am not sure I want to know:
Hope is frail seed under this season's snow.
