Basic run down of what happened for those who are not frequenters of what is usually a damn funny and well behaved chat room, considering the 'jerks and assholes' who frequent it.

Three "new" people entered the chat room and one or two of them started to make personal attacks on those who were already there, using language that some people found offensive. A request was made to bar the most offensive person, which was upheld. One of the three entered the chat room again the following day and again made personal and offensive comments, so it wasn't a 'one-off' bad day.

Mudcat has always taken steps to delete or bar personal attacks, as they only serve to feed the trolls, and make things very uncomfortable for everyone. The comments and the offensiveness of the language was such that they were 'eligible' for banning.
