I suggest if you mourned the loss of your cat over that of Ken Bigley, then it may be you who needs to examine your perspective.

I'd probably agree with the perspective. I felt a lot of emotion including anger, saddness as well as sympathy for the family but I didn't mourn. The cat could have touched my life in a very personal and direct way so I could find myself mourning the loss.

I find the whole business of mourning people you don't know quite weird. At times it seems to me more a case of mass hysteria than anything else. I wonder whether some of those who mourned for those who mourned for Ken Bigley who they had never met and had not even heard of or know anything about did the same for thier neighbour down the road who they had at least met in passing and said hello to, who lets say died after a 2 year long battle against cancer. Somehow I doubt many would.
