I posted a similar thread to this a couple of weeks ago, since then I have been experimenting with open tunings, namely DADF#AD, and I've found the sort of thing McGrath of Harlow is proposing to be quite effective, don't concentrate on chordings, more what actually sounds right, just experiment with the placement of one or two fingers.
That probably sounds like a load of tosh but if I was sat next to you, I could probably make sense of it!
However, this still elludes me in standard tuning!
