Nixon is not a good example of a devoted husband, Ellen. He strayed plenty, according to gossip that was around at the time and shortly after he was in office.
Saying there are "far more serious things that politicians do" is like saying, "Hey, we'll use guns over here and limit the war and bombs over there and pave the country".
Bruce, I haven't a clue as to what kind of comparison you were attempting to make in that sentence. It makes no sense.
My whole point is that if he hadn't been stalked by Scaife this never would have come out. And I feel quite sure that every person who has been president has something in their personal history that can equally be blown out of proportion. (yeah, you can play with that wording if you want to, but to the detriment of the point being made). Sexual misbehavior is not the same as a power grab and declaring war in the way that Bush did it. If you can't tell the difference between the two and are equating all "points of principle" as being equal, then you need to take off those colored glasses and take a look around. There are a lot of issues that need more evaluation and critical thinking than the application of a policy adopted in your childhood Sunday School class.
Of course, one of the reasons so much stuff is drilled into children at impressionable ages is the hope by church leaders (or parents) that they will grow into adulthood not questioning the values they were force-fed as children. A sign of intellectual maturity is to revisit those issues and to understand why you hold or don't hold with those early teachings. Just think about it a little before telling us again that all things are equal.
I'm not trying to start a fight with you, Bruce, and I agree with a lot of the other things you say. But on this we do part ways, as you suggest.
