Actually, there is a book recently ( Barnes?) "501 Sonnets".The sonnet form, while the oldest structured form of verse in modern English, is still quite popular. Each is " a moment's monument": short enough to give a snapshot of thought, image, or feeling, without dragging on. Not much good for storytelling, unless you string them together. But they serve a useful purpose.

Thanks for the compliment. I did like some of your poem- it is just that approximations to sonnets irritate me like approximations to, say, waltzes might irritate a musician.

There are those who consider the form restricting: I have found that having a structure to build on makes it easier to write. Perhaps others do not. I don't say they are for everyone- but to claim to be a poet (in English) and not be able to write a sonnet is like claiming to be a guitar player and not be able to play a chord. IMHO, of course.
