Thread Name: Brand new folk show on the radio
Subject: RE: Brand new folk show on the radio
Hi guys,

Sorry this one's a bit late, been super busy as usual! Just come back from a great Spiers & Boden gig in Oxford (a fundrasier for the folk fest!). Anyway with no further ado here's the set list for last Tuesday's show. Remember that the archive is working now at www.1287am.com so you can still listen to it till next Tuesday.

FLOOR SPOT: Martyn Bennett - Move
From Grit (Realworld)

Martin Simpson – Betsy the Serving Maid (live)
From Live (Beautiful Jo)

BELLOWhead – Rambling Sailor
From E.P.onymous (soon to be released on Fellside) (Cool as Folk is still the only radio show to have played anything by this fantastic ten piece band led by Spiers and Boden!)

FLOOR SPOT: Martyn and Margaret Bennett – Uamh an Oir (Cave of Gold)
From Martyn Bennett – Glen Lyon: A Song Cycle (Foot Stompin')

Andrew McKay – Dead Reckoning
From Pennbucky to Llangenny (Crane Drivin' Music) (a fine collection of contemporary songs about nautical Wales from a Mudcat matey, email us at folkontheradio@hotmail.com for contact details)

Tim van Eyken and Robert Harbron – Ye Mariners
From One Sunday Afternoon (Beautiful Jo)

FLOOR SPOT: Martin Bennett and Martin Low – Harry's in Heaven
From Hardland (Cuillin)

Fernhill – Grey Cock
From Hynt (Beautiful Jo)

FLOOR SPOT: Martyn Bennett with Sorley MacLean – Hallaig
From Martyn Bennett - Bothy Culture (Rykodisc)

I presented this show with my new mate Fee, who, as she says above, has swiftly risen through the ranks from the lady on Mudcat to the lady I met at the Kate Rusby gig to the lady in the chat room to the one-off co-presenter to the full time co-presenter/organiser/e-mailer/promoter! She's got great music taste and a big old CD collection, she's even rumoured to be working on a website for the show, watch this space! So from now on you'll be getting postings/emails from either of us, which might mean you don't have to wait so long for updates/replies (sorry for anyone still waiting for an email reply!).

I'd be interested to hear how well everyone is hearing the show. When I listened back on the broadband campus computers there was a slight hum in the background but it wasn't very intrusive, but others had worse problems with it. If you do have trouble, try listening on a different connection speed. I'll also try and track down the tech people at the studio and see if they can improve the output. But please don't be put off, only a very small number of people have had any problems with it, give it a try!

As the archive is up again, I might has well also mention the playlist for my other show, Random Noises, which is on the hour before Cool as Folk, in case you want to check that out too! I played: Detroit Cobras – I Wanna Holler (But the Town's Too Small); Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up; The Battlefield Band – Ms Dynamite of Benbecula / The Alewife T / Little Cascade / Culder's Rant; Ms Dynamite – It Takes More (Bolshy Main Mix); Arthur Russel – The Platform on the Ocean; The Phil Beer Band – Frank and Jesse James; McKay – Thinking of You and Bell x1 – Like I Love You. My co-presenter, Jules, played some stuff to but I never got the details!

Finally, at the end of Cool as Folk, I had a bit of a technical crisis and between a number of silent spots I filled with Eliza Carthy – Fisher Boy, Basement Jaxx – Hot and Cold and BELLOWhead – Prickle Eye Bush. It's far from wonderful radio but if you particularly wanted to hear any of those tracks (have I mentioned that the BELLOWhead is an exclusive that you wont hear anywhere else?!) feel free to listen on the archive from 11pm!

Chris
