I was surprised and pleased to see this thread get revived after so many months. (Even more surprised than I was to get *no* reponse back in January.)

Fat's funeral was indeed an impressive and well-attended event, featuring a *huge* contingent of musicians, including many of his fellow street performers. It was the only time I've ever observed guitar players marching along with the usual jazz-funeral contingent of horns, reeds, and drums. Many many gifted singers harmonizing out there on the street, too.
