My son Tristan went through a stage at about 3 years of age where he thought that somehow the food was better if it was on the floor. Hence, he would sometimes throw stuff on the floor and THEN eat it. Don't ask.

Conversely, most of our cats have been regular residents of the counter and table since time immemorial. So a friend calls during that time and asks how things are going. I looked around and said, "Well the kids are eating off the floor and the cats are eating off the table, so I'd say things are about average."
