ranger 1, I totally agree with everything you say!
I'm 22 now (Do I still qualify as a young folkie??), but when I was growing up I was ridiculed for saying that I listened to folk music, and almost literally torn apart for saying I enjoyed it!
Nevertheless, I have been a regular festival goer since my time in the womb, I am an active contributer to singarounds, songwriter and singer's competitions and up until a month ago I ran my own folk club.
It can be done in the face of adversity!
However, at my local folk club there are only 2 who are considered 'regulars', who are under the age of 25.

But.....

Small question: Would there be any point in the Radio 2 young folk awards if there weren't any young folkies?

(However, I'm too old to even think about going for that now, so I suppose I'm not really a young folkie anymore!)
