Well he finally did it. After being here since 1976 Hildebrand is now a Dinkum Aussie. He now has dual citizenship actually. American/Australian.
Thought there'd be a bunch of potential citizens taking the plunge, but we live far from the big city so he got his very own ceremony. No other candidates. The mayor and everyone else of importance in the local community and FOUR reporters came along. He was given a big native tree and his very own little party afterwards. Looked so good - brown suit and green silk shirt and a TIE. He's doing the Soprano-family look just now. Singing Cowboy with the John Wayne-shirt and the big hat has gone for the moment. He had to make a few perfectly reasonable promises and someone said, "Shouldn't we have a flag here or something?" Found a big flag and then took pictures of him wrapped in it. Not sure what image they were looking for. Sure to make the front page of the local newspaper though. Nobody felt we needed the National anthem but one of the councillors would have liked "The Auctioneer" from Hildebrand. Sorry we hadn't thought to bring a guitar.
