They were. "Listen to the Band" is a neat--although not perfect--piece of music. Was in a Porche doing about 90 MPH going to the Sierra Nevadas when I first heard it. Loved it. Still do, even though I see/hear the holes in it. Peter Tork is one heckuva banjo player. Too bad he didn't get to play banjo with the group. The Monkees were put together to make money. They did. "Daydream Believer" is a neat song, also. It ain't everyone's cuppa, but then neither were the Stones, Kinks or Herman's Hermits.
