Who knows? Perhaps before too long they'd have abolished slavery the same way Brazil did, and become a racially mixed-up country like Brazil, and escaped a century and more of institutionalised racism.

Think of that - an English speaking Brazil. Maybe playing real football, and winning the World Cup from time to time...
