I went to a session at the Edwardstone White Horse (2nd Wednesdays) and there was a conga player there, with just one conga drum. He even took his turn to play a solo turn, and it was totally enchanting.
I love it whan a real musician plays drums!

I wouldn't advise your friend to bring his drum kit though...
