GUEST, Russ, on the subject of closing your eyes while singing (which I do a good deal too), Peggy Seeger says she sings with her eyes closed "Because I want to watch the movie." I, too, visualize what the (usually) ballad action is.

And, similar to Hamish above, I really dislike singing through a sound system because of the constraints it puts on me in terms of audience eye-contact and expressivity.
