Thanks, Joe. That variant is one that I haven't seen before.

The song in Newman White, "American Negro Folk-Songs," is not the same; it is the No. 70 which I posted up above as "Ain't Gonna Grieve...." (4).

In the music volume of Brown's set, White, the editor, gives a verse with music beginning 'O, down in the valley where I was told,' (sung by Sander, 1919-1920) that is the same as the first verse of the No. 70 song in White, 1928 (which lacks the 'Worry' choruses). Is this true also of the Sander verses in Brown?
