Jim, if he sent me a recording of his songs I could transcribe them by ear for piano, no problem.

That would require a good chunk of time and energy though ... depending on how many tunes he has. And what is meant by "very cheap"? I love helping people with their music, and I'm happy to spend an hour or two at it just for the love of it ... but a week's worth of work would be a different story. And please consider that the knowledge and experience required to do this was not acquired quickly or cheaply, by any means.

Also, there are a few computer midi programs out there that can transcribe a piece into standard notation while you play it on the keyboard. I'm not sure about other instruments or voice though. And for me, those programs have proven to be relatively useless, because you have to perform the piece PERFECTLY -- including timing -for it to print out correctly. How many of us can keep the beat perfect, just like a metronome while playing? Or produce a "perfect performance" at will? Certainly not I! I'm much faster doing it by hand.
