Thread Name: Lyr Req: Lovers (Adrian Mannering)
Subject: Lyr Add: LOVERS (Adrian Mannering)

We are the publishers of Adrian Mannering's 'Lovers'. Adrian Mannering was born in and lives in Dublin. He has two CDs available: 'As You Were': Erect Records ERCD001 (1998) and 'On Leighlin Road' (2001). He is currently in pre-production for his next CD, working title 'Geostationary, and this will feature his own version of this much-covered song. He has been described in 'Irish Music' as a songwriter " . . . with [a] rare ability to connect with words and music a time a place and a generation, to the widest understanding of humanity'. We just think he's one of the best lyricists of his generation, and we're proud as punch to have him on our books. The CDs are available commercially in Ireland, and can be ordered online via Here are the complete - and proper - lyrics: Note it's 'mark Anthony love Cleopatra'; NOT 'Mark Anthony loves Cleopatra'.

1. Soldiers in dreams are like lovers who come without warning,
And take you by surprise when you think you must make it alone.
Sooner or later, their presence is only a memory,
Yet you know that without them you'd never have rolled back the stone.

2. As lovers lie sleeping, I find myself travelling towards you;
The morning arises, the wind is as soft as a sigh.
Whatever's before me is nothing to what I have come through:
The pain and the passion, the tears and the laughs and the lies.

3. My darling once told me, that "loving is better than living".
But I told her survival for me was the easier game.
I couldn't live with her; now it's I can't live without her;
I thought I'd feel different, somehow I still feel the same.

4. Romeo tells me that Juliet can't live without him.
And Ophelia's crazy for Hamlet who wants to be king.
Away in the distance, Mark Anthony love Cleopatra,
As Portia sits silent, soliloquising in the wings.

5. So, if lovers are losers, what price the game we are playing?
What price the man who has not got the money to pay?
The silence of angels means praying is just an illusion,
For the lost and the lonely and those who have nothing to say.
