Spot on about the driver choosing!!! I had a 3hr lift a while back from a friend with an obnoxious teenager. Said teenager DEMANDED that we play its CDs. When driver said no, said teenager demanded that I put her CD on. I said no. Eventually driver gave in - and we had about 5 mins of the most APALLING bang-bang-disturbing-rhythm-and-shrieks music, at which point the driver snapped & took the CD out again. It was not just that she didn't like the music, it was just too distracting to drive with.

Mind you I have had some interesting reactions to my choice of driving music. I think I'll designate it a folkies-only van.
