Depends on what the emphasised object English people are thinking about when they start a phrase - if you are thinking about the 'fish' then it is a more natural way to think - if you are talking about 'the barrel' then 'barrel full of fish' is the more appropriate phrase. So depends on whether you are primarily interested in shooting barrels or fish.....
