Thread Name: BS: Thankfulness
Subject: RE: BS: Thankfulness
We had a double dose of thankfulness these last few days. Thanksgiving day, my wife Ruth and I went to St,. Albans (over here, it's in Queens, New York, to share the day with Ruth's brother and sister-in-law, and a whole slug of family members, friends and strangers. Irving and Sarah have to be the most generous people I have ever met, and there are always at least a couple of people at Thanksgiving who they've never met... friends of relatives who have no place to go for Thanksgiving. I know all about that from the years I lived in New York City and ate in a modest restaurant for Thanksgiving. (I refused to get sliced turkey breast and cranberries though, because it seemed too pathetic a substitute for the real thing.)
The day before Thanksgiving, we received a call from my oldest son, who lives in Florida. We haven't seen him, our daughter-in-law and two Grandkids in over a year. My son was calling from New York, and they'd just came in on a flight to be here for the weekend. Gideon is interviewing for a job in New York City on Monday so he brought the whole family up. They had Thanksgiving at our daughter-in-law's family and then, the day after Thanksgiving came here for most of the day. What a joyous time! It was great to see the change in our Grandkids, and I hooked up the Playstation so our Grandson Hunter, age 6, could play it.
When I give thanks, I don't confuse being blessed with being lucky. Luck comes in all flavors... good and bad. Blessings are just one flavor, and I thank God for such a wonderful two days of joyful celebration.
