Hey, Tanny:
My brother-in-law was a heavy smoker for many years, and the Doctors kept telling him he was killing himself. Didn't have the least effect. Until he had his first heart attack and almost died. Finally, he stopped smoking because he was having trouble breathing. Now, he's on oxygen, and has lost so much strength in his body that he can't walk without falling over. Right now, he is in the hospital until they can make arrangements for him to go into a nursing home. My heart goes out to him, because he is very depressed.
My sister has carried the burden all these years and has serious health problems of her own. She has seen her husband waste away to nothing, because of smoking.
AND SHE IS STILL SMOKING.....
Thank God I never started. But, I know that people can quit. My parents both were heavy smokers and many years ago when the first Surgeon General's report linked smoking to lung cancer, they got up from watching the news on the tv, and threw their cigarette packs in the garbage. Neither of them smoked again. My Father lived until he was 92, and My Mother is still going strong, looking forward to celebrating her 98th birthday.
My Father, by the way, carried a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket for a long time, after he stopped smoking, just to show that cigarettes couldn't get the best of him.
I'm just glad that your husband has stopped smoking. That gives you a fighting chance...
