Subject: BS: God Help Us, It's Buck Day Again
Y'all can re-start the hunting controversy again if you want to, but that's not my goal.
It's the Monday after Thanksgiving, so in our parts that means it's the legal holiday called Buck Day. Schools' out, everything except restaurants and hunting supply shops are closed. Local hunters (safe, experienced), including farm-raised teens, are out there bagging the first of the year's catch for the freezer, and God bless 'em in the hunt.
They are joined annually, however, by yayhoos from the flatland who have been known to shoot (by mistake) each other, farm goats, large dogs in their yards, house windows, and, occasionally, things stored up in our attics. I sit between two prime hunting spots, literally-- one blaze-orange-garbed pair are out among the cows out back looking downhill toward my south-facing picture window, and another pair are blasting away on the hill rising in front of my north-facing puder window.
They may get ME this year! I can't go out-- don't own a square inch of blaze orange to make a break for the car!
Why do we put up with it? Hunters bring big money into the county's very poor economy, keep people working, and we get to have Christmas off it.
Well, I love you all, and if they get me, remember me fondly!
