'James'...... the ONLY site I would view is the one being set up by the organisers of Sidmouth Folk Week 2005. They are the ONLY people who know what HAS gone on, what IS going on and what is GOING to be going on!
Yes 'Steve' is free to ask and behave how ever he so chooses, but equally the Steering Committee for Sidmouth Folk Week 2005 should also be free to arrange a Festival quietly and confidently, with as much support as possible from all involved.
They are working for all of us, to keep this wonderful Festival alive and I have a huge amount of respect for them! Why should they answer questions continually from someone on Mudcat? They are not there to keep Steve in Sidmouth happy, let him wait for the press releases like the rest of us! I should think that no other folk festival has ever had to be arranged under such a mountain of criticism and doubt!
This Country is losing many, many precious things! We seem extraordinarily happy to shrug our shoulders, be apathetic and just moan or grieve over the loss of things which we all have the power to save!
I don't know what's happened to us all!! We need a really hard 'kick up the backside' lately!! I've heard people who've professed to love Sidmouth Festival deeply just say...."Well, let it die! It's time it went! It's had it's day!"
Well, Bums to that Attitude!!
How DARE people say that and then profess to love Sidmouth! How Shamingly Pathetic!! My God! It makes me SO angry! Forget the people of my town, some of whom love this Festival, forget the businesses, it has to be the PEOPLE who so love what Sidmouth stands for who have to save it!!! It's not about Stephen Wozniak, it's about a Spirit that SO deserves to be kept alive!
And THAT'S why I get so angry!! This Festival is about everyone, from Steve Heap, Dave Swarbick, Ralph McTell, and Martin Carthy to the smallest child dancing to the music in the Arena on a summer's day! It is about thousands of people's memories and thousands more beautiful memories yet to come!
The Steering Committee are determined to save this Festival and organise an enjoyable Folk Week next year along the way and I'm damned if I'll sit by and let deliberate poison and doubt be spread around in the way that it has on this thread and the others before it! I have a great deal of respect for them all! They're doing a great job!
And as I sit here and type this, I'm listening to Jim Moray's 'Sweet England'. A young man who spent many, many holidays in Sidmouth at Festival time, and who has gone on to become one of the new generation of Folk Singers, taking this music out to young people, where it's so badly needed!
Oh Gee! 'James' I've done it again.....what was the question??? :-)
Never mind, somewhere amidst all these words you should find the answer you want!!! :-) :-) (Are you sure you're not Steve?!)
Anyway, it's high time I took a rest from Mudcat! I'll leave you all to heckle or support!
