A memorable spiritual!
The Cleveland Index lists Fenner, p. 169, for this song, but it does not appear in his edition of 1874. It must have been added in one of the editions after Fenner died (1891, 1909). The 1927 edition by Dett has the lyrics posted by WYSIWYG, but her last verse is the second.
R. N. Dett, 1927 (1972), "Religious Folk-Songs of the Negro as sung at Hampton Institute," p. 169 with music.
Scarborough included it in her "On the Trail of Negro Folk Songs."
In "Songs of Zion," the 'train' verse is added, but not the 'St. Peter.'
Ballanta-Taylor included it in her spirituals from St. Helena.

It would be interesting to see other verses, such as the 'redeemed' verse posted by Azizi.
