If you copy your own CDs (ones that you own, not necessarily ones that you produced) and do not give away or sell the copies you have done no wrong. You have not even broken any laws (a different matter entirely). The law allows you to make a backup copy. If you make a copy of somebody else's CDs for yourself or give away or sell copies of your own CDs, then you have violated copyright.

This is, of course, my own opinion and not that of an attorney, but that is the way I understand the law.
