David Broder no doubt is right- as far as he goes. However, there is undeniably something very strange happening in this oountry. Those Left Behind novels -all 12 of them, with more coming - are selling like pop rocks once did. Not too surprising in one way. They are written for the sixth grade reader. Drama, murder, death and resurrection, goodness rewarded, God's face, in turn furious and benign, over all.

Not that I think that the writers are responsible for the movement. But obviously they felt the opportunity and fell into place.

And with a high percentage of the "common people" clamoring, I have no confidence that our current government will not hurry forward to lead them.
