It is not just the musicians it is the context of expectations
I see the same phenomenon in American bluegrass music.
Technically skilled musicians play fast and with extreme ornamentation because they can and it impresses other performers and gets the applause. It seems to take a long time for a technically proficient musician to decide that less is more. Some never do.
